Report- Ales Hemsky Looking For $5.5M+ Per Year Salary

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

Ales Hemsky's stay with the Senators was likely short and not so sweet because he may not be back in an Ottawa uniform next season.

League sources told the Sun Tuesday talks between the Senators and Hemsky's camp have broken off and unless there is a change of heart on his part he's expected to test the UFA market on July 1.

The 30-year-old Senators winger, acquired from the Edmonton Oilers at the deadline in exchange for two draft picks, was believed to be looking for a deal in excess of $5.5 million per-season from the club.

Sources say the Senators were not prepared to make that kind of offer and there was also concerns he's determined to test the market."‹

continued and since we are on the Ottawa Senators topic, here is the latest on Jason Spezza...

The guy tends not to stay healthy. The guy has put up a total of two (2) 20-goal seasons and neither has come since 2009. Hasn’t had more than 43 points in a season since 2008-2009. Seriously, $5.5M?

When I see this kind of stuff, as much as he drives me crazy, paying Franzen sub-$4M per year is still a bargain, despite the baggage.

Agreed.  Hemsky is a $2 million dollar a year player at best.  He plays soft and is easily hurt.  Not a good investment for any team.

Yup.  If you have a problem with Franzen, you have no business crying for the WIngs to land Hemsky.

Makes you wonder if ANYONE would take Hemsky at this point.

does he have brain damage or something? this can’t be real, how is it possible that he thinks he can get that on the open market? Is it because he did ok during that brief stint with ottawa after being an utter dissapointment for the previous 5 years?  I think this is just speculation, there is no way he gets over 4 million which is a stretch in itself

The last 6 years prior to this one Hemsky played 322 games and scored 92 goals with another 174 assists, that’s why he thinks he can get 5.5 from somebody.

I don’t think he’ll get that much, but considering Hudler got a multi year deal at 4 per under a much smaller cap I can certainly see a team going 4.5-4.75 on Hemsky for 3 years.  I think that would be a dumb signing the same way I thought the Hudler deal was dumb for Calgary, but players who put up empty points get overpaid fairly frequently.
