Petr Mrazek Has Had His Ups And Downs With The Philadelphia Flyers

from Sam Carchidi of Philly.com,

With Flyers goalies Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth sidelined because of injuries, the spotlight is shining directly at Petr Mrazek.

So far, the results have been mixed.

Mrazek was superb in his first three games with his new team, including a 1-0 shootout win in Montreal. He won all three games and allowed a total of four goals.

But he has lost his last three games (0-2-1), surrendering 14 goals in that span.

It is that kind of inconsistency that caused Detroit to deal him to the Flyers on Feb. 19 for a pair of conditional draft picks.

As with everything, there is quite a bit of context to go along with Razr’s poor play; back to back games, playing the lightning, the panthers on a hot streak, etc.

We can’t grand stand on Petr’s first three games and we can’t grandstand on the last three games. But they have 15 or so more games left, and if he continues to be up and down well, then that is indeed the Petr we all knew. He could also bottom out or get back to good form.

Not picking a side but if you look how the Flyers hung him out to dry in the Panthers game that might offer some context.

4 breakaways. Tough sledding.

Good Petr, bad Petr, it may be early to pass judgement but I think we’ve seen this play before.

His Save % is…. not good the last three games.

homers is right, context is important.

However, #1) Philly fans don’t and won’t care, and #2) this is basically what he did in DET.  Given golden opportunities to take control, he squandered them.

It’s entirely possible, after all the teeth-gnashing, that even if Mrazek can’t hit *any* of the conditions, this trade would look pretty good from the DET side, and not so hot from the PHI side.

A reminder of the conditions:  5 Reg. Season Wins (he has 3) and qualify for playoffs turns the 2018 4th to a 3rd…. and if PHI makes Conf. Finals and Mrazek wins six (!!) playoff games en route, it becomes a 2nd.  The 2019 3rd is only added if PHI re-signs him.

Yeah, the fact that his first six games are pretty much a microcosm of his entire year so far is probably irrelevant. Let’s wait for another 15, because that’s going to be more reflective of his talents than the 170-some games he played in Detroit.

I have a hard time caring.  Whatever he does for the rest of the season will not be indicative of how he will play next season or the season after.  He couldn’t find consistency over any stretch longer than 3 games, which is why I think he will struggle to get a long-term contract offer any time soon.  And he’s not getting any younger.

It is VERY strange to see him in that uniform though.

All I care about is that he wins the necessary amount of games to get the higher pick

You all might be better off taking s look at Howard’s stats, say over the last 6 games.  Not much better, for the old guy?
