from Michael Traikos of the National Post,
The timing was curious — if not more than a little coincidental.
As Jesperi Kotkaniemi prepared for his much-anticipated return to Montreal after signing a contentious $6.1-million offer sheet with Carolina in the summer, a report surfaced out of a Quebec-based newspaper suggesting that GM Marc Bergevin’s tenure with the Canadiens is all but over.
Not only that, but according to La Voix de l’Est, owner Geoff Molson has tabbed Patrick Roy as a possible replacement, having reportedly met with the Hall of Fame goalie several times already.
C’est what?
In case anyone forgot, we’re just a week into the season. And while the last-place Canadiens haven’t looked like the team that beat Toronto, Winnipeg and Vegas en route to the Stanley Cup final, you’d think that the team would be given at least until the end of the month before reporters and fans starting calling for Bergevin’s head.
