from Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette,
In his speech to the Canadian Club on Monday, Montreal Canadiens owner and CEO Geoff Molson said “patience is a virtue.”
But Habs fans are not known as the most patient people in the world and even some of the team’s star players, notably goalie Carey Price, have been grumbling that they are impatiently awaiting a Canadiens Stanley Cup run. Molson said after the speech that it is a bit of a high-wire act for the team.
“For sure patience is important,” Molson said. “But when we’re patient and we start rebuilding enthusiasm (about the team), a moment comes when it’s time to perform. And I think if you ask any player in the dressing room, not just Carey Price, they all want to perform right now. Whether they’re young players or veterans, that’s important every year.”...
“I think we start every season with the hope that we’ll make the playoffs,” Molson said. “We divide this into several stages, as you’ve heard many times. … What we have to do is start the season well and then we’ll build on that. But for sure everyone on the team wants to make the playoffs.”
