Open Post- Day 33 Of The Stanley Cup Playoffs

06/18/2021 at 7:30pm EDT

The Montreal Canadiens sure would like to be up 2-1 in the series with a home win tonight.

The Habs are 1-1 in a game 3 this post-season while the Vegas Golden Knights are 2-0.

Today, Montreal Canadiens Head Coach Dominique Ducharme tested positive for COVID-19, he will not be coaching tonight. He recently had his 2nd vaccine shot on June 9th.

Enjoy and feel free to comment on the game.

Pre-game reading is below.

via the NHL PR department,

* The Canadiens have been perfect on the penalty kill through their last nine games. If they continue their success tonight, they will join the Red Wings (10 GP in 1937), Rangers (10 GP in 1940) and Devils (10 GP in 2000) as the only teams to contest 10 consecutive playoff games without allowing a power-play goal against (since 1933-34 when goals by type were officially tracked).

* Tyler Toffoli has at least one point in each of his last eight contests (5-5—10) and can match the franchise record for longest run in a playoff year, established by Guy Lafleur in 1977 (7-10—17 in 9 GP) and repeated by Larry Robinson in 1978 (2-13—15 in 9 GP). Toffoli, who was signed by Montreal on Oct. 12, 2020, can become one of eight players in NHL history to record a playoff point streak of nine or more games in their first season with a franchise and first since Cory Stillman in 2006 (13 GP w/ CAR) – the longest by any skater in that scenario.

* William Karlsson has found the score sheet in each of Vegas’ last six outings (2-6—8) and can tie the longest postseason point streak by a Golden Knights player (7 GP), set by Shea Theodore in 2020 and matched by Max Pacioretty earlier this playoff year. The longest by a player with a franchise in its first four NHL seasons is 12 games, set by Denis Potvin in 1976 (w/ NYI).

* Cole Caufield owns an active four-game point streak and has 1-5—6 in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs overall (11 GP). Only nine other Hobey Baker Award winners have recorded as many points in their first NHL postseason – a list includes Golden Knights president of hockey operations George McPhee, who had 3-3—6 during the 1983 Stanley Cup Playoffs (w/ NYR) after claiming the Hobey Baker with Bowling Green State University in 1982 (the second year the award was presented).

* Marc-Andre Fleury enters Game 3 in Montreal with an all-time record of 33-21 following a loss in the postseason. The Sorel, Que., native also holds a 1-2 record (2.36 GAA, .897 SV%, 1 SO) in playoff games taking place in Montreal.

* Marc-Andre Fleury’s next victory will be his 10th of the postseason, which would mark the fourth time in his career that he has recorded 10 or more wins in a single playoff year (16 in 2009 w/ PIT, 14 in 2008 w/ PIT & 13 in 2018 w/ VGK). The only goaltenders with more such postseasons are Patrick Roy (9), Ken Dryden (6), Billy Smith (5) and Martin Brodeur (5).

* Carey Price is 9-4 during the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs (2.14 GAA, .930 SV%, 1 SO). Price can become the fourth different Montreal goaltender to post 10 or more wins in a single playoff year and first since Patrick Roy (16-4) during the franchise’s championship run in 1993.
