Olympics And ASG Talk

from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic,

There’s a potential scenario looming that’s making some people nervous right now.

The fact that so many Olympic-bound NHL players will be flying directly from the All-Star weekend in Las Vegas from Feb. 4-5 to Beijing for the Games has some concerned about the potential for COVID-19 cases landing in China.

This is why, according to sources, the NHL Players’ Association has been pushing for tighter protocols for players at All-Star weekend in Vegas to avoid that as much as possible.

Can you imagine the nightmare scenario of any NHL-laden Olympic roster facing an outbreak in Beijing because of the Vegas All-Star weekend?

So it would appear, based on what the NHLPA is pushing for, that the Vegas experience won’t be the normal Vegas experience for players. Which will be a bummer, no doubt, for players looking for some fun in Sin City. It’s also understandable.

But it also begs the question: Why the heck is there an All-Star weekend in a year the NHL is participating in the Olympic Games?

Oh, I’m sure it’s because the owners are such a benevolent group and they just want to make sure that best players are recognized and get the attention deserved….. Surely has nothing to do with greedy corporate partners wanting to schmooze for the weekend in Vegas…

...and who could argue about the relative safety of groups of athletes from around the globe getting together for two weeks in China and then dispersing to the four corners in the midst of a global pandemic.

Sounds completely rational to me and not at all driven by the same greedy corporate institutions….... confused sick

Notice you left some greedy bashing out so I fixed this for you…

Oh, I’m sure it’s because the owners are such a benevolent group and they just want to make sure that best players are recognized and get the attention deserved….. Surely has nothing to do with greedy corporate partners and allstar players seeking endorsement deals wanting to schmooze for the weekend in Vegas…

...and who could argue about the relative safety of groups of athletes from around the globe getting together for two weeks in China and then dispersing to the four corners in the midst of a global pandemic. Certainly not the players PA who pushed for and is participating in this looking to nudge that top line and their salary up.

Sounds completely rational to me and not at all driven by the same greedy corporate institutions and greedy players …....

Oh, god forbid a group of individuals traveling to China would bring COVID with them. The CCP had absolutely no concern about the rest of the world when they let 450,000 people travel from Wuhan Province in late 2019 and early 2020 while they forbid any travel from Wuhan to the rest of China.

The idea that any athlete in their right mind would travel to China next February is beyond me. They’re simply giving the CCP a PR bonanza at a time when they’re waging a war of genocide on the Uyghurs. Boycott the 2022 Olympics.

I will not be viewing a single stream of the Beijing Olympics.  I’ll just go to NHL(dot)com for scores and that’s it.
