from Chris Ryan of NJ.com,
There have been games this season where John Hynes let Cory Schneider play through his early struggles. But when he allowed his third goal on just the seventh shot he faced before the 10-minute mark in the first period.
That ended Schneider’s night on Friday, and while the Devils got him off the hook for a loss when they rallied for a wild 5-4 overtime victory over the Vegas Golden Knights at Prudential Center in Newark, they couldn’t get him back in the win column....
Now at 0-5-1, Schneider holds a 4.66 GAA and .852 save percentage, and the Devils haven’t been able to get a full game from him where he played like the elite goalie he was a few seasons ago.
What can the Devils do with him now?
Keep easing Schneider in to figure it out
This, at least for the time being, is what the Devils will continue to do, and it’s the simplest form of action. The Devils know they can ride Kinkaid like a starting goalie, which would allow Schneider to play here and there as a backup.
The hardest part about that strategy is the inconsistent ice time.
