No Suspension For Hossa

from NHL.com,
NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell conducted a phone hearing with Hossa earlier Sunday afternoon. Campbell made the following statement after the meeting:
“I have made the decision that this play does not warrant supplemental discipline after considering all of the facts, including reviewing the video and speaking with Mr. Hossa,” said Campbell. “This play is distinguishable from recent incidents by a number of factors, including the degree of contact involved; the fact that the consequences of the play do not appear to be as severe; that this was a hockey play involving a race for the puck; that Mr. Hossa is not a repeat offender; and that the call of a major penalty by the referee was significant and appropriate.”

Yeah, it’s so much different than what got Ovechkin suspended.

the fact that the consequences of the play do not appear to be as severe;
This does not belong in the reasoning at all.

Ridicoulous. When are they going to get rid of Colin and Bettman and put someone in charge that has some balls. Ben Rothlesberger gets 6 games for behavior, but Hossa does one of the most dangerous plays in the hockey, which is exactly what Ovechkin did, and he gets off scott free and scores and OT game winner.
I guess they need to put the stop signs on the back of the jerseys like they do in mites. Its only a matter of time before one of these hits results with someone being paralyzed, or dead. Players now are way bigger, stronger and faster and something needs to happen.

Is anyone really surprised? Everyone knows that Colleen Campbell is completely devoid of testicular fortitude.
This play was nearly identical to Ovechkin’s and we all know that if this was a game in November it would have been 2-4 games.
Mrs.Campbell is exactly why the NHL receives a lot of the slings and arrows fired it’s way. The NHL doesn’t doesn’t deserve respect because it doesn’t respect itself.

ya, i have to agree with many of the posters that it is ridiculous that hossa did not recieve a suspension. TBH he deserved a game misconduct and should have been ejected from the game at the very least. The same thing that happened to ovechkin, yet all he recieved was a 5 min penalty, and no suspension.
The NHL has to set a precedence and stick with it for once. The hits/pushes were IDENTICAL.

difference between hossa and ovi situation was hossa play they were going for the puck. It is also obvious the push wasn’t as hard. The reason ovi was suspended was because he was a repeat offender. Maybe hossa shouldn’t have been allowed back in the game, but for being consistan, I agree with the no suspension.

You get more consistency with a Magic 8-ball than with the NHL’s head office. I imagine Campbell at his desk with a set of Role Playing Game dice to figure out suspensions. Ovechkin had a charisma rating of 3 due to his repeat offender status, Hossa had an 8. On both, he rolled a 14 on the 20 sided die, but Hossa survived the roll and gets to play on.

Hey Nashville,
Start Ellis then have him slash Hossa on the neck; when he get’s thrown out replace him with Rinne. Revenge solved.
Seriously…I’m surprised the Pens didn’t collectively maul Sutton in that game 6. Ah…Bylsma is too “pulled pork bbq buddhist” for my taste.
