No Movement On The Jack Eichel Front

from Mike Johnston of Sportsnet,

Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres remain at an impasse as the NHL regular season approaches.

The star’s new agent, Pat Brisson of CAA, updated the latest with his client during a Thursday appearance on The Jeff Marek Show.

“It’s an interesting case, it’s a very complicated case,” Brisson said.

Eichel has been out with a herniated disk since March and prefers artificial disk replacement (ADR) surgery as a solution, however the team has not approved this type of procedure that has never been performed on a hockey player at the NHL level. Fusion surgery is a more common procedure for herniated discs.

Based on the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, the team has final say on what type of surgery can be approved.

Brisson confirmed there are teams in the league willing to allow Eichel to go through with ADR, which will hopefully help facilitate a trade.

I’ve not been a big fan of Eichel, not that I’m remotely any
expert on him on or off the ice.

But I sure hope he gets to go to a team, asap, that will let him
get the surgery he and his doctors feel is best for his recovery
as a player and his longterm well being.

I’m not saying this is an easy situation for Kevyn Adams or that
he’s some sort of malevolent guy. I’m sure he’s under enormous pressure
from above to play hardball and extract the maximum return.

But this makes Buffalo look so bad. Who would ever want to sign there,
other than guys whose careers are hanging in the balance for whom it’s
Buffalo or the AHL or KHL. Who would approve a trade to Buffalo if they had any say? It’s a shame. It’s such a passionate traditional hockey market.
Talk about long-suffering fans…
