from Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun,
The National Hockey League Players’ Association, on behalf of Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien, has filed a grievance against the NHL challenging his suspension from the team.
A source confirmed the news of the filing to the Winnipeg Sun on Wednesday. The NHLPA had a 60-day period in which to file the grievance. Byfuglien was suspended on Sept. 21, meaning the final day to do so would have been Wednesday.
But a source said the deadline was “debatable” but that it was “important” that the union filed today to avoid the debatable part entirely.
