COYOTES RECORD NHL’S THIRD THREE-GOAL COMEBACK IN AS MANY DAYS
After the Coyotes after erased a 3-0 deficit against the Ducks Monday and the Oilers rallied from the same deficit against the Canucks Tuesday, Arizona scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation before Christian Dvorak sealed the comeback win in the shootout.

* The 2020-21 season (Feb. 22-24) marks the fifth time the NHL has witnessed a comeback win of three-plus goals in three consecutive days. The others: Nov. 16-18, 1992, Feb. 22-24, 1990, Dec. 30, 1989 – Jan. 1, 1990 and March 7-9, 1985.

* Arizona, which erased a three-goal, third-period deficit to win for the fourth time in team history, became the eighth club in NHL history to overcome a deficit at least three goals to win in consecutive games. Only one other club did so against the same opponent.



MINNESOTA BENEFITS FROM ANOTHER HIGH-SCORING OUTING
The trio of Mats Zuccarello (1-1— 2), Kirill Kaprizov (0-2— 2) and Victor Rask (0-1— 1) all continued their recent strings of success as the Wild (10-6-0, 20 points) scored five or more goals for the third consecutive contest and extended their win streak to four games.

* Zuccarello (3-6—9 in 5 GP), Kaprizov (1-5—6 in 5 GP) and Rask (2-3—5 in 3 GP) have combined for 6-14—20 in the Wild’s last five contests dating Zuccarello’s return to the lineup on Feb.16. Minnesota’s trio trails only Toronto’s combination of Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner and Joe Thornton (8-15—23) for the most points among three teammates over that span.

* Minnesota, with a 5-1 win on Feb. 20 and a 6-2 win on Feb. 22, scored five-plus goals in three or more consecutive games for the third time in franchise history (excluding shootout-deciding goals). The longest such run in franchise history is four games (Feb. 15-21, 2016).



NCAA ALUMNI LEAVE THEIR MARK ON WEDNESDAY’S ACTION
University of Massachusetts Amherst alumnus Cale Makar (COL) and University of Vermont alumnus Ross Colton (TBL) each collected milestone points during Wednesday’s action:

* Makar, who captured the 2019 Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA’s top men's ice hockey player, recorded his 50th career regular-season assist and required the fifth-fewest games by a defenseman in NHL history to reach the mark.


* Colton opened the scoring at 6:43 of the first period and became the ninth player in franchise history to score a goal in his NHL debut. His goal was the second-fastest from the start of a game among that cohort, behind only Nikita Kucherov on Nov. 25, 2013 (2:12) – who, like Colton, also had the game winner in a shutout victory.

* Colton played two seasons with the University of Vermont Catamounts (2016-17–2017-18). Another noteworthy player to skate for the school was Martin St. Louis (1993-94–1996-97), the Lightning’s all-time points leader.

NYLANDER HELPS CONTRUCT MAPLE LEAFS COMEBACK
William Nylander (2-0—2) tied the game with 1:28 remaining in regulation and netted the game winner 1:06 into overtime to help the Maple Leafs rally past the Flames. Nylander joined rare company in franchise history in the process.



* Auston Matthews (18-13—31) assisted on both Nylander goals to join Mitchell Marner (9-21—30) as the second Maple Leafs player with 30 points through the team’s 21 games in 2020-21. Matthews, with points in 18 of his 20 games this season, is the NHL’s third player in the last 10 years to have as many performances through his first 20 contests of a campaign. The others: Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl (18 in 2019-20) and Chicago’s Patrick Kane (18 in 2015-16), en route to capturing the Art Ross Trophy.

KHUDOBIN RECORDS SECOND STRAIGHT 40-SAVE APPEARANCE
Anton Khudobin, who made 49 saves against the Panthers Monday, followed up that performance with a 43-save shutout as Dallas blanked Florida at BB&T Center. It marked the second time in which Khudobin recorded 40-plus saves in consecutive appearances, following a three-game run from Feb. 19-24, 2019.

* Wednesday was also the second time that Khudobin recorded 40 or more saves in a shutout during his NHL career, following Dec. 27, 2018 when he had 49 in a 2-0 win at Nashville. He joined Cesare Maniago (March 1, 1970 & Feb. 20, 1972) as the second Stars/North Stars goaltender with multiple 40-save shutouts.

TKACHUK BROTHERS SET FOR FIRST MEETING OF THE SEASON
For the first time this season, and fifth time overall, brothers Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk will meet in the first of five games between the Flames and Senators scheduled over the next 11 days.



* Brady enters the showdown with his brother with multiple points in each of his last two outings to lead the Senators to a pair of extra-time wins over the Canadiens. He reached 100 career points on Feb. 17 in his 160th game – the seventh fastest by any player to debut with the Senators franchise but 14 more games than brother Matthew (146 GP) required to reach the milestone.

* Matthew, meanwhile, reached 100 career goals on Feb. 22 in his 312th game (0.32 G/GP) – brother Brady got halfway there on Feb. 23 when he scored his 50th and 51st career goals in his 163rd appearance (0.31 G/ GP).
