Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

A season of upheaval has now produced this ultimate day of upheaval for the Rangers.

For on Wednesday, in a shocking development, president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton were both dismissed by CEO Jim Dolan, a source told The Post.

Assistant GM Chris Drury is believed to be the leading candidate to fill the post of GM while Dolan conducts a hunt for a president that is expected to have Mark Messier at the top of the wish list.

Drury has been part of the Blueshirts’ management team for six years and an assistant GM for five. The next GM will make the decision on the fate of head coach David Quinn, who has two years remaining on his contract.

The Blueshirts, eliminated from playoff contention for the fourth straight year on Monday, have taken significant strides since embarking on their rebuild as foretold by The Letter of Feb. 18, 2018, moving from 26th overall in 2018-19 to their current standing of 14th in the NHL.

Word on the street is Bettman wasn’t happy about handing the blue shirts the draft lottery win last year and then having them call out the DoPS, made a call to Dolan and said get em out…

(the street being some conspiracy theorists on twitter)

but Frank Seravalli’s tweet seems to indicate that couldn’t be the case

That’s probably true. When Bettman anoints you as his new favorite team, you should get on your knees like Mario did.

Chris Drury named Pres/GM, at least for now but interim is not being floated around.

Speaking of Chris Drury, did you guys know that he once played in the Little League World Series?!

Two years in a row now, Hughes watched the Devils front office implode and now Lafrienere. I wonder what kind of impact it has on an 18 year old going through that much drama in their first year. It’s got to make it tough to just lace up the skates and play and not feel like your poor performance is contributing to the firing of guys who welcomed you into the organization.

I know nothing other than what’s been reported, but here’s my take.

The Statement released yesterday came from ownership and I think Davidson tried to distance himself from the statement and Dolan was unhappy with that distancing…and Dolan just blew them out. Just a theory. Either way , Gary and the league have a much bigger story on their hands now, then if they simple suspended Wilson for tonight’s game….

If I was on that team, I’d want a completely united front.

“Scurrying” is a strong word choice from Seravalli.

I’d assumed the whole organization was drawing a line
and with the Rangers’ insane revenue willing to take whatever fine came their way.
Unless the league was acting intentionally to crack a divided front by demanding who was specifically responsible and threatening to fine individuals, not the organization. If so, and I was Dolan, I’d promise to make them whole and then some for sticking their necks out. But maybe Davidson and Gorton felt their relationship with the league going forward was as important?

And while both executives have done a very good job (with some major lottery luck)
assembling a team that ought to have a good window to contend soon, maybe there were other personnel moves (beyond their leaving the Rangers so physically exposed in such a tough division). Not that a legit enforcer could deter everything.
But you look at how Boston could respond in game to the head-hunting hit on Carlo.

In any case I’d be not welcome this internal chaos if it were in that dressing room.
Maybe the players rally around it in addition to Wilson’s latest goonery.

And no I’d not want a guy who continually acts like a ‘roid-raging teenage sociopath on my team, no matter how good he is. If five years pass and it’s obvious by his consistent behavior on and off the ice he’s embarrassed by his own previous behavior and has gotten the continual flagrant to intent to injure play out of his game, and the moronic flexing and gloating - maybe you’d consider it. People aren’t always unredeemable and can sometimes genuinely change.

NYR has turned into a circus in the last 24 hours.  If anything, Wilson has singlehandedly thrown the Rangers into a tailspin.  Whether or not these firings has anything to do with Wilson, whatever - but the organization looks like a clown-show right now.

The timing is absolutely terrible.

Amateur hour at one of the more iconic sports franchises in North America.

There must have been quite a schism over how to respond publicly that this couldn’t wait until after their season. It’s not fair to the players. But this is a notoriously mercurial owner and if he ok’d the tweet and its language expressed his feelings, it’s easy to see him flipping out when top management made clear to the league it wasn’t their view or their decision.

Chris Drury has been tabbed as an up and comer for a while
and I guess one could question how much longer he was going to
wait for the top jobs. This still would have been a dramatic move a month from now.
But it would have made some sense: Davidson and Gorton did a good job, overall, but Drury is the future and the future is now.

But with a couple games left and in this context?
Crazy! When you think of John Davidson you think of gravitas and
stability.

from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet,

This is more about the direction of the team. In February 2018, the Rangers released a statement to their fans, preparing them for a rebuild. While they won’t make the playoffs this season, they’re definitely headed in the right direction.

But, according to multiple sources, it wasn’t moving quick enough for ownership. Dolan generally leaves the Rangers alone, but if you’re a Knicks fan, you’re familiar with his impulsiveness. He’s not known for patience. Apparently, Dolan also expressed frustration that he didn’t receive enough communication on the plan.

Well then, that makes at least three teams that Bettman favors. You know the other two. angry

So did Ray Ferraro.  Mitch Melnick on the Team 990 here actually found the kid (now a man) who pitched an epic game against him and had them both on the radio at the same time, it was brilliant.
