The union needs to stop fighting suspensions against its member and instead think about the rest of the group they should be protecting.
I agree, but that’s not how unions work. They’re too busy fighting to protect the guys like Emelin despite the damage the wrong-doers are doing to the majority of the unions members.
What I WISH happened is the NHL said to the union and the players: “look, we’re actually going to be serious about punishing this kind of stuff going forward.” And the union says, “okay, we’ll make sure the players understand; it’s a win win for all our players if we keep it safe”.
But that’s just funny because the league won’t ever say that.

Emelin and Gudas. Both are bad for the game. Gutless wonders.

Need to get rid of instigator rule. He is correct. Cheap Shot players hide behind the refs.

He’s right. There is a complete lack of respect in a handful of players now. The players union needs to stand up and demand more serious fines and suspensions when certain players basically endanger the livelihood and lives of its members.

Any targeted hit at the head should be a minimum 5 game suspension. Many boarding calls should be the same. The suspension length should ramp up quickly for repeat offenders. By now, Emelin should be out of the league.
They better not wait until someone dies or is paralyzed before doing something.
