Morning Line- Nail Yakupov

“It’s not my decision I’m not playing, obviously I couldn’t be happy about it. So, it’s a coach’s decision and nothing I can do about it.”

“I’m not shocked, I just want to play. The four lines are playing good, winning the games and it’s coach’s decision to not put me in the lineup. So I can’t say anything. But the team played good, guys are working hard ... but I couldn’t be comfortable with that.”

-Nail Yakupov after being scratched by the St. Louis Blues for three straight games.  Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has more.

Wow. Something must be up with Nail. Seems like coaches just want to sit the kid.

I think it was a pretty weak draft class in 2012 when you get right down to it.  For everything people say about Yakupov, he’s still the 3rd leading scorer out of that draft class, and nobody will mistake the two players ahea dof him (Galchenyuk and Forsberg) as stars.

Sometimes I think people, including fans and execs, assume a top 1st round pick like that is a shoo-in as a star.  There may not be a single star out of that entire draft class.  Just some good contributors.  If anyone is expecting Yakupov to be anything except a Top 9 guy that can contribute some… they’re probably mistaken

That’s the problem right there.
