Milbury Charged With Assault And Battery On A 12-Year Old

via WCVB,

A former Boston Bruin and current TV analyst has been charged with assault and battery on a child.

Michael Milbury, who currently works as a hockey analyst for Versus NHL, was accused of assaulted a 12-year-old youth hockey player at the Dexter School Ice Rink in Brookline last week.

Milbury is an assistant coach of a local hockey team, and the alleged victim is a player from an opposing team.

As always, remember there are two sides to a story.

added 12:51pm, from Laurel J. Sweet of the Boston Herald,

The incident allegedly occurred at the end of the Winter Classic between the Boch Blazers for whom Milbury coaches and his son plays forward vs. the Boston Junior Black Hawks. It is alleged that after Milbury’s son and a player for the Black Hawks got into a scrape on the ice, Milbury charged out onto the rink and verbally berated and grabbed and shook the 12-year-old opposing player.

If this were to ever go to trial I could see the prosecutor showing this video

Whether found guilty or not, is it too much to hope that Verses/NBC washes their hands of him, and finds a more sensible intermission analyst?

i like the guy, and i know it sounds bad “shaking a 12 year old”.  I hold judgement though until i hear the facts.  This could be a 6 foot 12 year old who was smashing his sons head into the ice for all we know.

Can’t stand the maroon, but you can’t make a call based only on this story.

Not to dispute the potential authenticity of this claim but it seems as though someone would have posted a video of this on youtube by now

Wait… we’re seriously talking about giving Mike Milbury the benefit of the doubt here?

This guy’s history or not, when is it ever acceptable for a coach or parent to run onto the field of play and deal violently with a 12 year old on the other team?

We’re constantly talking about sports parents being out of control and unless this kid pulled a knife or something, what Milbury did in this situation is unacceptable.

Wow, this is a shocker.  I’m mean, who would thought that the incredibly short fuse he displays as an analyst would come out in hockey?  I know I would quit if that cock was my coach.  And seriously, “I’ll reserve judgement”?  Yeah no.  An adult getting onto the ice for a peewee game?  I’m gonna go with NO possible excuse.
You’re pure Bruin Milbury.

Milbury’s attorney…

“Mike Milbury denies any allegations that there was an assault of any kind.  He simply intervened in an altercation between his son and an opposing player. No one was struck, no one was injured and no one was threatened.”

via the CP.

That fact that all of these coaches are getting accused of just about anything these days makes me want to see the video and both sides to the story. Until then, I have doubts about this.

Did he beat the kid with his own shoes?

Milbury probably figured he couldn’t beat the 12 year old in a battle of wits, so this was his only alternative.

Poop in the glove.  NIce.  Boston area, you say?

I’m no Milbury fan but…. yeah, I’ll reserve judgement.  As big a douche as Milbury is, there are plenty of other hockey dads who are as big, or bigger, douches.  It’s entirely possible that Milbury broke up a scrum and the other kid’s dad is all butthurt because Milbury’s kid was pwning his, or because he’s just a hockey dad from hell.

Most any scenario is believable at this point. Everything from Milbury totally lost it with the 12 year old and did what they say, to some money grubber looking for a fat check. You never really know.

The Boston Globe has some of the Milbury side of the story…

After eating, the Blackhawks and Blazers lined up to participate in a shootout with opposing players interspersed in a line at center ice. At that point, the alleged victim threw Jake Milbury onto the ice. The coaches rushed onto the playing surface to get matters under control.

“My understanding was that Mike picked the boy up and said, ‘What did you say to my son?’ and that was it,’’ said Cokinos. “So, it was an incident where I think everybody was trying to help out and get kids out of the way because there was a scrum going on. I think it spilled over from the game because this one boy I heard was antagonizing Mike’s son during the game. Mike asked the other coach several times to please have him stop and nothing was done. So, I think it spilled over to this.

“But I heard the teams stayed there, skated around, and everything went on as normal. If it was a bad, bad situation, everyone would have left, but they didn’t.’’

My suspicions have not been snuffed out yet.  There’s the possibility this was all even orchestrated and premeditated by the other team’s coaches, from the sounds of things.
