It took a full season for Mike Vick to realize the NFL wasn’t going to call him again.  And even now that he has retired, there are rumblings he’s rethinking it, because he still thinks he’s better than guys in the league.

I’m betting Havlat fully expected to get a call around the holidays at the latest and have an NHL contract.  He still thinks he’s a 20-goal guy in the NHL, even though he hasn’t done it since 2010-11.

Some guys see the writing on the wall right away.  And others *coughDANCLEARYcough* cover their eyes and keep repeating “LALALALALALALALAAAAAA!” to drown out hearing anything else.

If Havlat had honestly seen the writing on the wall, he would have retired after 2013-14 with San Jose.
