CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have named Brad Treliving general manager.

“I’m pleased to announce Brad as our general manager,” said Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke. “He has been identified as the top young guy in the business and it’s evident that he has prepared carefully for this day, acquiring extensive front office experience in all areas.”

In his position with Calgary, Treliving will report directly to President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke. He will be responsible for all team personnel decisions, both players and staff; manage the amateur and pro scouting staffs; as well as other administrative duties required of the general manager. He is also responsible for all player personnel assignments with Flames’ minor league affiliates.

“I’m excited to be in Calgary. To work in the hockey business in a Canadian city is truly an honour,” said Treliving. “I’m proud to be a western Canada guy so it’s especially exciting and a homecoming for me. Over the course of my career, I’ve been dedicated to acquiring the experience and developing the skills required to not only receive this opportunity but to excel in it. I look forward to getting started and working with Brian and the entire staff.”

Treliving just completed his seventh season as Vice President of Hockey Operations & Assistant General Manager with the Phoenix Coyotes. In that capacity, Treliving worked closely with Phoenix General Manager Don Maloney on the day-to-day administration of the Coyotes’ hockey operations. Treliving also served as General Manager of the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Pirates.

Prior to his role with the Coyotes, Treliving served as the President of the Central Hockey League (CHL) for seven years. During his tenure, he guided the CHL to remarkable growth and development including numerous successful expansion franchises. In 1996 Treliving co-founded the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) and served as the league’s Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations for five seasons. The native of Penticton, BC played an integral role in the merger of the WPHL and the CHL in May 2001 upon which he began his tenure as President of the league.

Prior to his front office career, Treliving played five seasons of professional hockey from 1990-91 to 1994-95 in the IHL, the AHL and the ECHL. A defenseman, Treliving registered 17 goals and 85 assists for 102 points and 811 penalty minutes in 243 games in the ECHL. As a junior, the Penticton, BC native, played in both the BCJHL and two years in the WHL.

Treliving and his wife Julie have two daughters, Ryann and Reese, and will relocate from Arizona to Calgary this summer.
