MONTREAL - The Canadiens have released the following statement after selecting defenseman Logan Mailloux 31st overall in the 2021 NHL Draft on Friday night.

“By drafting prospect Logan Mailloux with the 31st overall pick, the Montreal Canadiens organization not only selected a promising hockey player, but also a young man who recently admitted to making a serious mistake. The Canadiens are aware of the situation and by no means minimize the severity of Logan’s actions. Logan understands the impact of his actions. His recent public statement is a genuine acknowledgement of his poor behaviour and the first step on his personal journey.

We are making a commitment to accompany Logan on his journey by providing him with the tools to mature and the necessary support to guide him in his development. We are also committed to raising awareness among our players about the repercussions of their actions on the lives of others.”

Montreal being raked over the coals for this.

My question is: What more does this kid have to do, chop it off?

It’s tough. I’ll bet everyone who reads these boards has done something they’d love to take back. Most of the time, it’s not this public.

He asked to not be drafted.  Respect his wishes, let him get things figured out and draft him next year.

I don’t fault the Canadians for picking a talented player that would have been picked at some point this year or next year.

He and others wanted to give him time to figured it out ... take the time to reflect…  educate himself… look to something…  reflect internally… grow as a person…  look inside for improvement…  That’s all such public relations bullbleep IMO, what someone tells you to say, i’m sorry it is.

It happened, everyone knows he’s a creep, the legal process did what it did, the only other thing that should happen is the father or older brother getting him alone in a room, with the key, and 5 minutes.

Outside of that, he’s either now grown up real fast real quick and is now haunted that he pulled an absolute scumbag move thinking more with his unit and his hormones trying to impress the boys and will never do something like that again,  or he’s just a POS and always will be.  Whether he was drafted this year or next year or next year doesn’t change that.

The argument that picking him this year puts extra spotlights and pressure on him. OK, so the alternative is to have waited a year or two, let time pass, let people kinda forget this or at least give him the sheen of he’s grown or “improved” man now and move on?  BS, this keeps that anvil on his back, continues to make him feel the magnitude of his actions.
