LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with restricted free agent center Tyler Toffoli, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

The 23-year-old Toffoli (born on April 24, 1992) is a 6-1, 197-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, who appeared in a career-high 76 games last season with the Kings. He posted career-highs in all major categories, including goals (23), assists (26), points (49), plus/minus (plus-25), power-play goals (three), shorthanded goals (five) and shorthanded points (six). Among team leaders he ranked third in points and goals, fifth in assists, first in plus/minus (tied for 11th in the league), first in shorthanded points and goals (led the league in both categories), and tied for sixth in power-play goals.

A second-round (47th overall) selection of the Kings at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Toffoli will be entering his fourth NHL season in 2015-16. He has appeared in 148 regular-season games posting 83 points (37-46=83), a plus-49 rating (tied for ninth on the Kings all-time plus/minus list) and 49 penalty minutes. In 38 playoff games with Los Angeles, Toffoli has registered 20 points (9-11=20), a plus-11 rating and 10 penalty minutes.

That is a great deal for the Kings.  Lombardi does it again.  Does he have dirt on all his players to talk them into signing below market value?  This deal gives them some cap flexibility and keeps any potential offer sheets off the radar.  In a couple years, when the cap is higher, there’ll be a much bigger payday coming for Toffoli.

Agreed.  The future of the Kings still looks pretty good, despite this past seasons’ hiccup.
