Kris Versteeg Traded To Carolina

RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired forwards Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft in exchange for defensemen Dennis Robertson and Jake Massie and a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

“Kris is a skilled forward who has won a pair of Cups with the Blackhawks and can provide veteran leadership in our room,” said Francis. “Joakim is a solid, 200-foot player who can kill penalties. This gives us more options up front for this season, while also now giving us 10 picks in the first three rounds over the next two drafts.”

Do the Hurricanes hold something personal against defensemen?
I’ve never seen a team so gleefully willing to neglect it’s back-end while stockpiling forwards.

That team needs to be blown up.
Keep Skinner, Murphy and Lack and trade everyone else.
They should get a nice return for two of the most overrated players in the game, E and J Staal as well as Cam Ward.

I don’t get this from the Hawks perspective.  I thought Versteeg was better than this return.

Pure salary cap dump TK, probably the best offer they received without getting much money back.

I also thought they had high expectations from Nordstrom, so I was surprised to see him in the trade too.  Oh well.

Surprising that the repercussions are STILL being felt less than one full off-season after their contracts came on the books.
