Keith Kinkaid Headed To Columbus

For a 5th rounder.

added 9am, Columbus release is below.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired goaltender Keith Kinkaid from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Kinkaid, 29, has posted a 64-55-17 record with a 2.90 goals-against average (GAA), .906 save percentage (SV%) and seven shutouts in 151 career games with the Devils since making his NHL debut in 2012-13. This season, he has set a career high in shutouts and minutes played and tied his career high in games played and started with a 15-18-6 record, 3.36 GAA, .891 SV%, three shutouts and 2,302 minutes in 41 contests (38 starts).

"While we believe goaltending is a position of strength for our club with Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo, we thought it was important to add depth to the position," said Kekalainen. "Keith Kinkaid is an experienced National Hockey League goaltender who will provide that depth as we move through the final month of the regular season and into the spring."

A native of Farmingville, New York, Kinkaid set career highs in games played/started wins and saves in 2016-17, finishing with a 26-10-3 record, 2.77 GAA, .913 SV%, one shutout, 1,108 saves and 2,298 minutes in 41 appearances (38 starts). In 2015-16, he recorded a career-high .916 SV% with an 8-13-3 record and 2.64 GAA.

Assume this is just giving them a more experienced option in net if Bobrovsky misses any time.

Makes sense when they’re putting so much into this postseason - #1 goes down even for a couple games and their investments at the deadline could all be gone in a blink.
