Guy Carbonneau says the Canadiens need to make a deal, not at any price, but they need to acquire someone like Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle before the February 28th NHL trade deadline.
Carbonneau told “The Habs Show” on CJAD Sunday afternoon that, given the number of Habs defensemen who are hurt, they need more resources. Andrei Markov and Josh Gorges are both coming off knee surgeries while Hal Gill has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury.
Carbonneau believes the Canadiens are examining all their options but it doesn’t appear to the former Habs captain and head coach that the Habs have enough depth in Hamilton and he’d go after Kaberle.
Leafs general manager Brian Burke told “The Habs Show” on Saturday he’s had some talks with Habs G-M Pierre Gauthier and has no problem trading within his division, although he won’t trade a goalie or tough-guy to another team in the Northeast.
