Josh Ho-Sang Upset With No Invite From Hockey Canada

from Dave McCarthy of TSN,

After a solid debut season in the Ontario Hockey League as a 16-year-old with the Windsor Spitfires, finishing fourth on the team with 44 points, Ho-Sang followed it up this past year by leading his team in points (85) and assists (53) while tying for the lead in goals (32). But despite a quick and productive start to his OHL career, Ho-Sang was overlooked for Team Canada's Under 18 team in the spring, was not included on the 2013 U18 team to play at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament and was not invited to Team Canada's World Junior summer development camp roster this year.

He asks, why?

"The fact that I haven't been invited to a camp, it's insulting," Ho-Sang said frankly. "I've done nothing to them (Hockey Canada). It's not like they invited me to U17 and U18 and I messed up at all that stuff. I haven't been invited back since my first year in the OHL in December. It's been a year and a half; I haven't been a part of any Hockey Canada stuff."

But he has a philosophy as to why invites have not been coming his way.

"They can't invite me to that stuff because they're afraid," he said. "If I go there and do well, then they have no reason not to put me on the World Junior team." Asked directly why Hockey Canada wouldn't want him on that team, Ho-Sang, looking puzzled, responded, "I don't know."

I think its comments like this why he isnt invited. From hockey players its usually expected to have some sort of understatement. Even if you get a fully deserved invite, its expected to say its an honor and that you didnt expect it. Thats whats hockey about, never put yourself ahead of the team, even if you have done it all.

Like it or not, but if you arent Lindros like or better, you probably have to deal with it.

Wow, what a sense of entitlement.

Well, as an Islander season ticket holder - to quote Garth Snow - “He will fit right in”..

I am thrilled that they didn’t pick him.  Give him a chip on his shoulder.  Now, I do get where “rookies were meant to be seen and not heard”.  I don’t watch much OHL hockey - but - I hope Ho-Sang can back up his talk on the ice.  He would be a good fit for a team which has to re-market itself in Brooklyn - new fanbase (I would suggest half of the fans who go a lot on Long Island will not go regularly in Brooklyn due to the cost of the train ($21 offpeak round trip per person) and the ticket costs have blown up for Barclays Center - which is NOT built for hockey.

Ho-Sang will easily become an Islander legend if he can play first line minutes with his personality.  You cannot be a sideshow unless you can play.  From what I hear - he can play.  I would assume leading the Windsor Spitfires in scoring is a good thing?  He should sneak across the border and attend Team USA camp.

But importantly - come to Isles camp and LIGHT IT UP Josh !  Do MOST of your talking on the ice.  For if you do that - your words will become important and will force their hand.
