Jarret Stoll Joins The New York Rangers

NEW YORK, August 10, 2015 – New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with free agent forward Jarret Stoll.

Stoll, 33, has skated in 792 career NHL games over parts of 12 seasons with Edmonton and Los Angeles, registering 140 goals and 239 assists for 379 points, along with a plus-three rating and 582 penalty minutes. Stoll has won 55.4% of faceoffs he has taken in his career (6,834-for-12,339), and he has posted a faceoff win percentage of 51.0% or higher in every season of his career. In addition, he is one of three NHL players (among qualifying skaters) who have posted a 51.0% faceoff win percentage or higher in every season since 2003-04, along with Joe Thornton and Pavel Datsyuk. Stoll led his team in faceoff win percentage in nine consecutive seasons (2005-06 – 2013-14) and has ranked either first or second on his team in faceoff win percentage in 10 seasons during his career. He has also reached the 40-point plateau in four different seasons and has notched at least 20 assists in six different seasons.

The 6-1, 215-pounder has played in the Stanley Cup Final in three different seasons during his career (2005-06, 2011-12, and 2013-14), and he captured the Stanley Cup twice as a member of the Kings (2011-12 and 2013-14). In 93 career NHL playoff games, Stoll has registered 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points, along with a plus-five rating and 68 penalty minutes.

Stoll skated in 73 games with Los Angeles during the 2014-15 season, registering six goals and 11 assists for 17 points, along with a plus-three rating and 58 penalty minutes. He tied a career-high, and tied for eighth in the NHL, in shorthanded assists (two). Stoll led the Kings in shorthanded assists, tied for second on the team in shorthanded points (two), and ranked second among Kings forwards in shorthanded ice time per game (1:30). In addition, he posted a plus/minus rating of even or better in 59 of 73 games during the season. Los Angeles posted a 10-2-2 record when Stoll notched a point, including a 5-0-1 record when he tallied a goal. Stoll registered eight of his 17 points in either the third period or overtime. He recorded nine points (three goals, six assists) and posted a plus-seven rating over a 10-game span from Nov. 15 vs. Anaheim to Dec. 6 vs. Philadelphia.

The Melville, Saskatchewan native was originally selected by Calgary in the second round, 46th overall, of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Upon re-entering the draft, Stoll was selected by Edmonton in the second round, 36th overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Brett Cyrgalis of the NYPost,

Stoll met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly in early July to discuss the charges. In an email to The Post, Daly said: “Just wanted to have a conversation with him, and we were satisfied that we are all on the same page going forward. Jarret is committed to his career and understands the importance we place on maintaining the excellent image of the National Hockey League and the Players who play in our League.”

A Rangers spokesman said the deal is a standard players contract with no extra stipulations, and legally “there are no issues going forward.”
