from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
Jamie Benn will be in the final year of his contract in 2016-17, and said he would like to get a new deal done in the summer.
"Going into the last year of your contract, you don't want it to be a distraction for your team," Benn said. "I'll let Jim (Nill) and my agent try to figure that out."
Benn, who is one of three finalists for the Hart Trophy as league MVP, is probably in the market for a deal similar to the eight years, $80 million that was recently signed by Anze Kopitar of the Kings. While Benn could become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2017, he said he doesn't want to leave the Stars.
"This is where I want to play, this is where I want to be," Benn said. "I don't think it's going to be a problem."
