If It Works In The NBA, Why Doesn’t It Work In the NHL?

That LeBron showed why he was the MVP last night.

That Evgeni sure was the best player in the NHL.

Juwan and Shane win their first NBA title as did Willie and Simon in the NHL.

You want to go old school?

Michael could do everything, so could Bobby in the NHL.

Isiah, pound for pound was the toughest player in the NBA, same goes for Ted in the NHL.

How come the first name only rule works in the NBA and not the NHL?

The NBA feels more personal, players with just shirts and shorts are more identifiable and relatable than dudes with armors and helmets.

But when it comes to media, it’s so unprofessional to use always the first name. Hockey articles might have the “office nicknames” once in a while, but you’ll never see a story that is all about Sid the Kid or The Great One or The Perfect Human, while NBA journalists can go entire article covering just Lebron, Kobe and Dirk.

(also, who the hell uses “Michael”, Paul?)

Hockey is a team sport, the player is not bigger than the team.

Basketball is a sport of superstars, the individual defines the team.

I’m satisfied if it stays that way.

One key factor :  Number of players…

the NBA can only sign 15 players per team, while the NHL is 23?
In addition, the NHL is a revolving door with the minor leagues, bumping the total number of players who hit the ice to probably 30 or so during a season..

The NHL isn’t about ego, that is all the NBA is about.

Uhmmmm because waaayyyyyy more people watch basketball than hockey?

Just go to any bar when both leagues are in the playoffs and you’ll see what I mean.
