Holmstrom feel to the ice in the 3rd period, trying to avoid a shot from fth point, fell on his hand and broke it.
Keeping count- Datsyuk and Cleary should return after the ASG, Modano sometime in March, Stuart about 5 weeks away and Holmstrom 5-6 weeks. Howard, who knows at this point.

Silver lining: we’ll be rested come early- April.

Guess Tatar’s on his way back to Detroit? Or maybe Emmerton or Filppula the Elder?
I don’t know how the injury situation is in Grand Rapids right now, that’s why Tatár came up the first time and not Big Flip. Id think Emmerton and Ilari have better shots since they’re waiver eligible next season and have to work for a spot.

the hits just keep on coming…no other team in the league could even compete with the same number of injuries

Didn’t we say the same thing last year?

To be honest, they’re trying hard this year not to strip GR. They had to last year. They’d like the Griffs to be competitive.
Unfortunately it looks like that’s out the window now.

Well, I was able to fake optimism for a half-hour or so.

Queue the “red wings are old” narrative. It’s time to dust it off.
A gimmick loss sucks, but losing 2 more in a gimmick loss is worse!

Osteoporosis? Nah, bad case of Jobu.

i agree that all these injuries aren’t necessarily bad in the long run. They should be mentally and physically ready to in the playoffs.

Irrelevant. Modano was an accident, Stuart was criminal, Datsyuk and Homer were freak falls… Just Osgood could be agre related.
And Hank and Flip have their old-people-issues with back and groin, and they’re relatively young.

The injuries are brutal, but think about where they were at this time last year. They definitely weren’t 2nd in the conference. I can’t find the standings from mid-Jan 2010, but I know they weren’t leading the Central and I’m pretty sure they were between 7-10 heading into the Olympic break. They went on a great run after the Olympics but it was taxing and that’s why they ended up running out of gas against the Sharks. I don’t see that happening this year. Obviously you never want to have injuries, but they’re coming at what is probably the best possible time. Hopefully they’ll get past this and be fresh heading into April, May, and more importantly, June.

Wings were 9th in the West, a point behind the 8th sport Kings.

Calcium supplements. I’m serious about this. There’s an endorsement opportunity here as well as a health one.

How serious Howard’s injury is the real sticking point. They have some forward depth in GR, so while it still sucks, they can at least patch it together up front right now.
But in goal, if Howard is out for more than a game or two, the question has to be asked—do you think this team is still a legit Cup contender with all the injuries? If you do, you have to find a way to go out and get a goalie.
