NEW YORK (April 19, 2017) – Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has been fined $2,569.44, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for spearing San Jose Sharks forward Chris Tierney during Game 4 of the teams’ First Round series in San Jose on Tuesday, April 18, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 13:44 of the second period. Draisaitl was assessed a major penalty for spearing and a game misconduct.
The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

I was thinking of that same metaphor - scatter plot - earlier!
Except I think if you did it with team of perpetrator and team of recipient,
and by severity of discipline or lack thereof, you might begin to see a pattern
by teams from the randomness. Maybe add another dimension for extent of priors, if any.

I’d like to see this type of play earn a suspension. Doesn’t this fall into the realm of stick as a weapon/intent to injure?
But what he will get? There is no telling because the DOPS has been a scatter plot with regards to these incidents.
