Ference Fined

NEW YORK (April 22, 2011) – Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference has been fined $2,500 for an obscene gesture made during Game 4 of the team’s Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

The incident was reviewed by NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy. The fine was levied for violation of Rule 75.5 (ii) of the National Hockey League’s Official Rules. No penalty was assessed for the infraction.

The fine money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

This is crap!  Typical Bettman garbage!

How can you fine a guy for getting his glove stuck?*

Didn’t you hear Ference explain that?  He was celebrating his goal, the middle finger of his glove got stuck, as such things are wont to do, and he was just showing it to the Montreal faithful, as if to say, “Look!  The middle finger of my glove is stuck!  Isn’t that just crazy?”

Great job again. Lil’ Gary!!

* Andrew, I have heard more creative and believable lies from my 3 year old nephew. Next time this happens, just man up and accept it like that kid from Michigan did a few weeks ago.

I love it!  (the “obscene” gesture, not the fine)

I can understand that sometimes a glove finger will get stuck.  but, um, why did he put his hand and arm in the EXACT position one would use to “flip the bird” in the first place?  without the middle finger up, what is the celebratory significance of that hand/arm position?

All this is is a simple glove malfunction, much like Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl and her wardrobe malfunction and poor McSorley’s stick malfunction on Brashear…  What’s the big deal?

I wonder if there’s a man alive (outside Quebec) that hasn’t always wanted to flip of the Montreal Canadians’ crowd.

What a dummy.  If you’re going to lie then lie and OWN it.  Don’t apologize for five minutes and then go “by the way, it was an accident”.  What an ass.  He should’ve just said “Yeah, I gave them the finger.  Montreal fans are assholes, fuch’em.”

It’s not like there was any way he was going to get out of the fine…

I grew up an hour south of Montreal.
I can say that same statement of yours applies to Boston & their fans too.

He’s lucky he’s not in the NBA or NFL, because then the fine would have been in the mid or high five figures, maybe even the low six figures.

If he’s on the Islanders, it’s also a mid to high five figure fine ($79K to be precise) with a two game suspension.  He’s lucky he’s on Greg Campbell’s team.

If he’s on the Islanders he would’ve been kicked off the golf course.

There, fixed that for you.
