Dustin Byfuglien Could Be A Fit For The Los Angeles Kings

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
If the Jets can't re-sign him, they should be able to cash in a fairly big return for Byfuglien before the Feb. 29 trade deadline.
One team I've mentioned before as a potential fit is the Los Angeles Kings. On the one hand, I wondered if the Kings could be in on the Byfuglien market without a first-round pick (they lost that pick for Andrej Sekera last season), which is normally part of the price to pay for a high-end rental.
On the other hand, the Kings could have players in their system that would interest the Jets if they ever decide to move Byfuglien. He would be such a great fit in L.A., allowing the Kings to finally replace Slava Voynov on the right side.
To me, that would be the final piece for a Kings team already among the top five contenders in the league.

Haha well Dean would need full cooperation from CBJ and / or Philly to unload mucho cap space and make this happen

If anyone could do it, Dean could.

We’re over a decade into the cap era, and even with Capgeek gone, there are websites like General Fanager, SportTrac, War on Ice, etc. that can give relatively accurate cap figures for the present and future, and yet we’ve got the, “He’d be a good fit” articles popping up all over the place regarding players who either can’t fit within a team’s present cap figure and/or don’t fit in as future re-signings.
I don’t see Los Angeles giving up top prospects and valuable players for a straight rental in Byfuglien. Sure, he’d be another big body, but the Kings don’t need another big body badly enough to screw with their short-term or long-term plans.

I used to have the same reaction, George, because we’re Red Wings fans, but the reality is that there are GMs in this league that can trade for and trade away players with relative ease, molding their teams the way they want them.
We just don’t cheer for a team with a GM who does that.

I came here to post exactly this. It must be AWESOME to be a famous hockey writer and not have to include things like reality or facts in what you write.
There is 1% chance LA can make it happen, and that way probably involves them trading Lucic to the Jets, and I don’t think the Jets want them or else they’d happily just sign Ladd instead.
I wish writers knew what the cap was and contracts were.

[strong]One team I’ve mentioned before as a potential fit is the Los Angeles Kings.
Sure, they just need another player on the team to beat up his girlfriend, then cut said player for violating a morality clause in his contract, apply to the league for salary cap relief, and bingo-bango, magically the kings have room for Byfuglien…
Please note: I am not endorsing spousal abuse…this was sarcasm.

In my opinion, there is zero chance of the Kings making a run at Byfuglien. They’re not gonna sacrifice their next five years for a shot at the Cup this year. They don’t have the cap space and don’t have a shot of re-signing him for next season. They’re gonna have a tough enough time with Lucic let alone adding another $7M hit.
