Duncan Keith Headed To Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Duncan Keith and forward Tim Soderlund from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenceman Caleb Jones and a conditional pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, as follows:

A) Edmonton’s own 3rd Round Draft Pick in the 2022 NHL Draft; or

B) In the event that the Edmonton Oilers win three rounds in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Duncan Keith is amongst the top four Edmonton Oilers defencemen in total time on ice through the first three rounds of the 2022 NHL Playoffs, then Chicago shall receive Edmonton’s own 2nd Round Draft Pick in the 2022 NHL Draft

Keith, 37, joins the Oilers as a three-time Stanley Cup champion (2010, 2013 and 2015) and a veteran of 16 NHL seasons (1,192 regular season games) all with Chicago.

The 6’1”, 192-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba appeared in 54 games last season recording 15 points (4G, 11A) along with 30 PIM and a plus/minus rating of -13.

Originally selected by Chicago in the 2nd round, 54th overall in the 2002 NHL Draft, Keith anchored the Hawks’ defensive corps for more than a decade earning the James Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenceman in 2010 and 2014 to go along with a Conn Smythe award in 2015 and NHL First-Team All-Star selections in 2010, 2014.

A two-time Olympian who enjoyed gold medal wins in 2010 and 2014, Keith departs Chicago second to only Stan Makita in career games played for the franchise (1,192), 10th in career points (625), 6th in career assists (520), 5th in playoff games played (135) and 7th in playoff points (86).

Soderlund, 23, divided his time last season between Almtuna IS (Sweden) where he appeared in 23 games (10G, 6A) and the Rockford Ice Hogs (AHL) where he dressed for 23 games (5A). The 5’9”, 165-pound forward from Skelleftea, Sweden was selected in the 4th round, 112th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2017 NHL Draft.
