Does Connor McDavid Have A Target On His Back?

from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun,

In Los Angeles Saturday, Drew Doughty managed to get away with a Gordie Howe-calibre elbow to the jaw of McDavid. Doughty was shown laughing on the Kings bench and McDavid went back to the Oilers bench clearly suffering the effects of the elbow.

Many Oilers fans were more upset with the fact that Doughty escaped without a Milan Lucic or Zack Kassian choosing to take the law in their own hands and filling in Doughty for his transgression as would have happened in the days of Dave Semenko....

Sunday in Anaheim, the video of Anaheim Ducks’ Hampus Lindholm crosschecking McDavid in the back where ‘97’ and ‘McDavid’ are sewn on his uniform and sent head-first into the boards, went viral.

more with videos of both instances and others too and below, the Sunday play in question can be viewed...

added 5:02pm, below, Bob McKenzie on the topic too.

Oh My .. they really are bored in True North country.

Obvious answer to a stupid question ... of course McDavid is being targeted.
When you’re on top everyone is gunning for you ... knock you off the mountain top.

It really becomes a stupid question when you consider Draisaitl having as good a season as McDavid is and should be All-Star game bound.

Draisaitl is a little bigger than McDavid (understatement) and can take care of himself.

I thought part of Lucic’s job was to take care of stuff like that ... bitch at him not the other players or the refs.

Both plays are, to me, obvious penalties. If the refs aren’t going to call them, players have to take it into their own hands. Personally, I’d rather see refs do their jobs. I don’t know where the ref was looking on the Doughty elbow but how the ref ignored the obvious boarding call is beyond me. Hold these refs accountable.
