Devan Dubnyk Now A Member Of The Colorado Avalanche

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Greg Pateryn and a fifth-round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Dubnyk, 34, has a 3-9-2 record, 3.18 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage with the Sharks this season. He has skated in 537 NHL games over a 12-year career with the  Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Arizona Coyotes, Minnesota Wild and San Jose, recording a 250-204-54 career record with a 2.60 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and 33 shutouts. The 6-foot-6, 224-pound netminder has an 8-18 record, 2.72 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, all with Minnesota, and is the Wild’s all-time leader in playoff games played (26), wins (8) and shutouts (2).

Yep and Savard looks like he is heading to Tampa, so one less destination for Staal.

Trades are hard though! Wings aren’t in any position to buy unless we get a Staal deal! No brainer eh, lol.

Not true. Wings should be checking in on young d-men and others that would be required to be exposed to Seattle in the expansion draft. Those buys are independent of Staal.

Staal is owed 25% of his base salary (800k as the Rangers already paid his bonus and the number of games done is 42/56 = 75%.)  With a 50% retention his salary is 400k—not exactly pricing him out of the market.
