via the NHL PR department,
Vancouver Canucks forwards Daniel & Henrik Sedin are this year’s recipients of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded to “who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.” The Sedins will receive a $40,000 donation from the National Hockey League Foundation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.
The Sedins finished their legendary playing careers in April after 17 NHL seasons with the Canucks and their impact off the ice will be remembered with equal reverence in Vancouver. Their strong connection with their community includes a $1.5-million donation the Sedins and their spouses made to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation in 2010 to help build a new children’s hospital and expand existing medical services. They have helped the Canucks for Kids Fund raise $42 million since 2000-01, advocated for the literacy promotion programs of the Canucks Family Education Centre and supported the SPCA. The twins enabled thousands of deserving kids to attend Canucks games and touched the lives of thousands more by visiting elementary schools, meeting with patients and families at BC Children’s Hospital and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, and through their work with the Sedin Family Foundation.
