Dan Hanhuis Signs With The Nashville Predators

Nashville, Tenn. (July 25 2018) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Wednesday that the club has signed defenseman Dan Hamhuis to a two-year, $2.5 million contract. He will make $1.5 million during the 2018-19 season and $1 million during the 2019-20 season.

Hamhuis, 35 (12/13/82), returns to Nashville where he played his first 483 NHL contests from 2003-10, amassing 161 points (32g-129a). Drafted by the Preds in the first round (12th overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound blueliner has appeared in 1,030 regular-season games with Nashville, Vancouver (2010-16) and Dallas (2016-18), posting 343 points (59g-284a), and 62 playoff games (3g-18a-21pts), including Nashville's first five trips to the postseason and the Canucks run to Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.

A native of Smithers, British Columbia, Hamhuis has extensive international experience with Team Canada, winning the Gold Medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics, World Championship Gold Medals in 2007 and 2015, silver medals at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships and the 2002 World Junior Championship, and bronze at the 2001 World Junior Championship.

Interesting. That makes 8 defensemen under contract for Nashville. They good easily dump one of the bottom 3 (Betito, Weber, Irwin) but it could also be a sign that things aren’t going that well trying to sign Ellis to an extension.
