Dan Carcillo Will Be Meeting With Department Of Player Safety

via the NHL,

Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo will be offered an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault in a game Friday.

Carcillo was not penalized for the play that occurred near the end of the second period (he drew a penalty for cross-checking Jets forward Mark Scheifele afterward). Perreault did not play in the third period.

Winnipeg won 4-2.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: cross-checking. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

“I was just trying to knock him off, you know?” said Carcillo, who hadn’t heard from the NHL prior to speaking to the media Saturday. “I didn’t think it was very, like, malicious or anything.

“It was just kind of a hockey play and it was at the end of a shift. I must have just caught him between some padding. I’ve been hit there before, too. You know it hurts.”

Jets coach Paul Maurice had a different opinion of the play.

“It was a vicious crosscheck to an unsuspecting player,” Maurice said Friday.
