A team with an aging once championship core with a long time player/captain likely seeing his last real chance done in by lack of goaltending in the playoffs when it counts—-hmmm, where have I seen this before?

This is the exact reason why teams with Cup hopes need to acquire that 3rd veteran goalie that has playoff experience…rather than hang onto that 4th round pick….

Louis Domingue’s 1 playoff game previously in 8 years isn’t the answer….

And DeSmith was hurt last postseason, so they
didn’t even have a decent option to turn to when Jarry
struggled so much.

Domingue vs Shesterkin is really asking too much over a
seven game series.

Agree there was too much talk from GMs about how they didn’t
want to spend draft picks on goalies who weren’t clearly better than their
starters. Yeah, ok, and what happens if your starter (and backup!) go down
at the worst time. A playoff-seasoned veteran like Greiss isn’t a likely solution for a long playoff run. But it’s not hard to imagine him giving a team a couple qualify starts that might buy their incumbents time to recover. You never know - it can take a newly-acquired goalie time to adjust.

Of course DeSmith is done and Jarry isn’t close.

But it’s not hard to think of a few teams that might’ve been advised to acquire a solid veteran to stow on their roster and give the odd start to until roster limits are lifted.

I’m always surprised when teams are willing to short-change the goalie position when their team has a decent chance of competing for the Cup. Admittedly, this year is a bit different as we are seeing multiple teams resort to their 3rd string goalie. But not having a pretty capable #2 at this time of year is frankly foolish.
