RALEIGH, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that the team has terminated the contract of President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis. Francis served as the team's executive vice president and general manager from April 24, 2014 until March 7, 2018.
The team also announced that Joe Nieuwendyk has resigned his position as pro scout and advisor.

It’s his team and he can run it anyway he likes, but much as Florida did last year in relieving Gallant of his coaching duties ( waiting for cab outside the arena) there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things.
He’s certainly not making a lot of friends in hockey circles..

Sounds like Dundon is pulling a Jeter with the Canes, hoping everyone will just leave and he can tank the team into oblivion so he can move it to Houston or somewhere.

Chip Alexander of the News & Observer,
Just like that, Francis’ long affiliation with the franchise came to an abrupt end. His jersey, No. 10, has been retired and will continue to hang in PNC Arena, but Francis, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and a former Hurricanes captain, no longer is a part of the team.
In recent weeks, Francis had been working from his Raleigh home, said to be focusing on the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Team president Don Waddell, serving as interim GM, said Francis’ office at the arena was being converted into a new conference room.
“He’s available if needed,” Waddell said Friday of Francis.
Francis, who has not spoken publicly since being fired as general manager, could not be reached Monday.

What I see in Carolina is cheap, young, talented players ready to be acquired for whatever Dundon’s favorite song happens to be at the minute. Give him whatever he thinks he wants and get

Just a bit of news while we await OT: Don Waddell is going to continue as GM in CAR for now…couldn’t make a deal with Steve Greeley (BUF), and there are no plans to hire anyone in the near term.
In case you don’t recall, Francis was working from home for about a month now.
