Carcillo Traded To The Los Angeles Kings

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Daniel Carcillo from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Carcillo, 27, has spent the last two seasons with the Blackhawks.  In 23 games last season, he had three points (2-1=3) and 11 penalty minutes.  In four postseason games with Chicago he had one assist and six penalty minutes

I want everyone to think about this.

Think about it, long and hard.

There was a trade market for Dan Carcillo.  Someone was willing to give something up for him in a trade.  This despite the fact that he brings nothing to the table but stupidity and dumb penalties at this point.

Damien Brunner, Mikhail Grabovski, etc?  Guys that can score goals, and even play some defense?  That can be signed as free agents, only giving up money?  Nobody willing to make that happen yet.

Ladies and gentlemen…. EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE NHL.  So very many backwards-thinking NHL GM’s.

why do you blame the gm’s and not the agents?

is it not possible (in fact probable) that the GM’s of the league rightfully think Brunner is not quite worth what his agent has convinced him he’s worth? And so they sit and wait for a team to get desperate. You really don’t think anyone’s TRIED to sign those guys? I bet a TON of teams have. Hell, the Wings alone offered Brunner at least two different contracts.

what I’m more concerned about regarding this trade is why it was Carcillo and not Tootoo. I think we need to shed that salary. Unless Kenny’s insistence on Sammy being healthy is perhaps an attempt to create a trade market for him. He’s definitely overpaid, but he also only has a year left so for a team under the cap, he could perhaps be worth a stab? Either way, every trade like this makes it more difficult for us to shed the salary we need to shed. It’d sure be nice to get a draft pick or two instead of just waiving guys later. But if there’s no market, I guess there’s no market…

Grabo was making $5.5M, Brunner is looking for $3.5M.  Carcillo is a warm body who is cheap, has one year left on his contract and will be in and out of the lineup without complaint.  And you don have to worry about production from him.  Anything over 10 or 15 points is gravy.

As for Tootoo, he’s making twice as much as Carcillo and has two years left on his contract.  And Ken Holland tends to overvalue his players, so he’s probably asking way too much for Tootoo, if he’s even listening to trade offers for Tootoo at all.

Jesus. There’s a paucity of left wingers in town, but this is just stupid. Carcillo?

22 men on the roster already, 2 arbs coming up that we can’t walk from, Clifford left to sign…no 2-way contracts in sight…and we have 9 dmen (granted Mitchell probably will go LTIR). Something has got to give.

Oh, and Rob Blake being mentioned as potentially replacing Hextall? What the….
