From Jim Matheson at the Edmonton Journal:
Edmonton Oilers’ winger Gilbert Brule, who has scored in the last two games, won’t play against the almost unbeatable Vancouver Canucks Friday night after being injured in the Oilers 2-1 win over the New York Islanders Thursday at Rexall Place.
“He’s got a bruised abdomen or chest. He’s had some tests and we anticipate everything will be fine. I haven’t looked at the video to know what play it was, but there was contact with somebody,” said Oilers coach Tom Renney.
Brule, who didn’t play here on Boxing Day either because of a stomach virus, played almost 13 minutes over 21 shifts as the Oilers ended a seven-game losing streak against the Islanders. That included five minutes in the final period, on a line with Andrew Cogliano and Dustin Penner. He banged a loose puck past Islanders’ goalie Nathan Lawson 3 1/2 minutes into the game. But, he won’t play tonight against the Canucks, who haven’t lost a game in regulation in their last 14 starts.
