-ESPN’s chance to match Comcast’s two-year, $120 million bid for NHL telecasts ends Wednesday (Aug. 17). Since ESPN rejected a $60 mil a year opportunity in May, it’s doubtful there’d be a change. Then again, ESPN just might want to keep Comcast off the network ice altogether. After all, $60 mil is chump change to the boys from Bristol. -Here’s the inside on Bill Daly’s new title -- Deputy Commissioner. He essentially had been in that role for the past year. But with the official title, it’s now clear at NHL Headquarters that Daly is not only the Number 2 man, but there are no numbers 3, 4 or 5 behind him. Daly’s closest competition, John Litner, is now firmly ensconced at the Mets TV network.
