Be Prepared For Ads On The NHL Sweaters

from Mark J. Burns of SportsBusiness Journal,

NHL jersey advertising could become a reality as early as the 2022-23 season, multiple sources tell Sports Business Journal, cautioning that nothing has been finalized or approved by the league’s Board of Governors.

In recent weeks, NHL clubs have been conducting valuation work -- some with third-party sports sponsorship and marketing agencies as well as valuation firms -- to determine what a jersey patch and helmet decal could both be worth before eventually providing that data to the league, sources said. In other words, what’s the business and revenue case for formally adopting the new sponsorship assets, some sources described.

The exact location of a jersey patch, chest or shoulder, is also still being discussed and evaluated, sources said. Jersey patch sizing is unknown at this time.

Might as well go in on a corporate sell out: Red Wings logo mixed with a Goodyear/Bridgestone-Firestone logo.

Going to be great….can’t wait. Super duper. Terrific. Best Value in America. Lines around the block. Nascar patches for all.

SIGH!

Plain disgusting. Isn’t filling the boards with ads enough?  angry

Ads on the boards. Ads on the ice. Ads superimposed on the glass via TV screens. Ads during broadcasts—whether or not a TV timeout happened.

Now we’re also gonna get ‘em on the sweaters?

While that wouldn’t surprise me, it’s still friggin disgusting.

Whoever advertises their products that way, I will make sure I don’t purchase it.  smirk

I don’t understand why people are upset. We’ve promoted and celebrated this wonderful system of Capitalism, and it’s not going to stop any time soon, if ever.

Gotta either deal with it or stop watching.

Now. if we could get our Congress critters to patch up like NASCAR drivers, we might be on to something!

Personally, I have taken to watching a lot of women’s sports. It turns out that I like watching players play for the love of the game, realizing that one can be competitive and still have fun. And the brief commercial breaks don’t give me the current point spread and encourage me to gamble.

I find the lack of testosterone quite refreshing! Of course, your mileage may vary…....
