I don’t know that Barry Trotz is going to be the next head coach of the Winnipeg Jets.

But I do know that the Stanley Cup winner and two-time NHL coach of the year will have more talks with the Jets this weekend.

A source close to the Trotz camp confirmed the talks Thursday.

Time will tell if they produce a deal, but the very fact they’re still in discussions has to be seen as promising, not to mention tantalizing for Jets fans hoping their team lands the No. 3-ranked coach (in terms of victories) in NHL history.

It shouldn’t take long to find out: Trotz is expected to make a decision next week.
