from Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun,
The end remains nigh.
Or so one would think with the 2021-22 Maple Leafs, who are not a good hockey team right now.
The Leafs aren’t — spoiler alert — a Stanley Cup contender in the making.
Not with another loss, this one a 4-1 result at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C., on Monday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Toronto, which now boasts a record of 2-4-1, ends its three-game trip on Wednesday in Chicago against the lowly Blackhawks. A fall in the Windy City and you have to wonder if winds of change won’t blow through the organization to some degree....
“I thought our guys competed at a much higher level,” Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. “Unfortunately, it’s still not high enough.
“(The Hurricanes) set the standard, really in the league, in that regard.
We got a real sense of what a Stanley-Cup contending team looks and feels like. Our guys had to deal with that all the way through.
“I think we leave here a better team.”
