from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
The Senators suffered a net loss Friday night in more ways than one.
Already without No. 1 goalie Craig Anderson after he was given a leave of absence Thursday for personal reasons, the Senators lost backup Andrew Hammond to what the club is calling a lower-body injury after the first period in a ugly 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Rookie goaltender Chris Driedger, called up only 24 hours earlier from the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton, was making only his third appearance NHL appearance. There was no word on Hammond’s health but replays on TSN showed him leaving the ice in pain and having a difficult time skating.
There’s no timetable for Anderson’s return so expect Matt O’Connor to be recalled from Binghamton in time to join the club Saturday with the Senators preparing to face the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night after what is suddenly becoming a very difficult swing through western Canada.
"We're going to have to do something," said coach Guy Boucher, who offered no update on Hammond's status.
