An Eight-Year Deal For Nick Suzuki In Montreal

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on an eight-year, $63 million contract extension (2022-23 to 2029-30) with forward Nick Suzuki. The deal will pay him an average annual salary of $7.875 million.

Suzuki, 22, posted 15 goals and 26 assists in 56 games last season while serving 26 penalty minutes. The London, ON native then led the Canadiens with 16 points in 22 playoff games to help the team reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1993.

"We are very happy to secure Nick's services for the next eight seasons," said general manager Marc Bergevin.

The 5'11'', 205 lbs forward produced 28 goals and 54 assists in 127 career NHL games while serving 32 penalty minutes. In the playoffs, the centerman added 11 goals and 12 assists in 32 games.

Suzuki was acquired by the Canadiens along with Tomas Tatar and a 2019 second round pick in return for Max Pacioretty on September 10, 2018. He was a first-round pick (13th overall) by the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2017 NHL Draft.

There is no way Bergevin could not lock him up, especially after losing two centers this summer in Danault and Kotkaniemi.
