Buffalo needs some major roster turnover. They’ve tried for many years with that core group and they just can’t put it together. Offer to take a bad contract if they package a young star with them. Okposo and Quinn or Luukkonen etc… Skinner contract is a complete non-starter unless Eichel or Dahlin were in the conversation

From the outside looking in it looks like there is an accountability problem somewhere in the org.  Not necessarily behind the bench or on it either.

Other than the meddling but incompetent owners,
disastrous moves by Botterill (and Murray before him)
and coaches who have failed to inspire, motivate, teach,
enforce discipline (I’m listing possibilities - can’t say I know
what’s happening on the inside), it’s seemingly a culture problem and
a problem with the players (by process of elimination lol).

I can’t think of what seems like a worse persistent culture of disappointing
no matter the talent since Edmonton.

And in fairness to the players it’s not the greatest collection of talent.
Seems like there’s no passion, no cohesion, no chemistry and like leadership is
lacking. Like guys expect someone else to do it. It’s silly in 2021 to put much on
toughness, but it seemed to take a skinny rookie losing his temper and throwing punches to see any sign of life. Dahlin said something like “it’s time someone did something”. Cant get more passive than that attitude.

Eichel might be a great talent and I’m sure he’s sick of losing and can’t be expected to do it all himself - and maybe too many teammates expect him to.
But he doesn’t seem like a good leader at least from the outside.
It’s more like: how fed up is Eichel vis a vis his own career? When will he bail and demand a trade? Who can they sign to appease him? Which coach or GM will he get canned next?

The collection of players isn’t bad. It’s middling at best. Not enough talent in goal to cover their problems and maybe help the skaters play with more confidence.
They shuffle some players in and others out and it always seems to be the same losing atmosphere. Part of the problem might be that the best paid players are hardly the most productive: Skinner, Hall, Okposo….their top D for years has never been considered a good defender. Dahlin was supposed to be Lidstrom-lite and he hasn’t seemed to progress. They traded picks and prospects for ok veterans to try and accelerate the rebuild. Through it all there’s this pall of losing as if it’s in the air; as if it’s the default outcome no one knows how to prevent.

Who thought it was a good idea to hire a soccer coach?
