Afternoon Line- Phil Kessel

via Jonas Siegel tweets,

Phil Kessel just lambasted Toronto media for treatment of Dion Phaneuf: "It's not his fault. Why he does he get the blame?"

Kessel: "I think the way the media treats Dion Phaneuf in this city is embarrassing."

More Kessel on Phaneuf: "Is it his fault we're losing? No. Did he build this team? No.

Is Kessel auditioning for the role of Cartman in the live action version of South Park?

I have never been a Kessel fan. I don’t like one-dimensional players who could do more but don’t. But I am starting to like him for these types of things. Good for him.

Nothing’s gonna change with the Tronna media.  Nothing.

Good for Phil. I hope that Detroit does revisit the Phaneuf trade scenario in the summer. I still think he’d be an excellent fit with Detroit (for the right price) and I can’t imagine how much motivation he would have to reignite his career with a stable/successful franchise and stick it up the Leaf’s ass every time he plays against them.

Kessel can talk he knows he’s going to be gone.  But Toronto media deserves it.  They suck.

I think Kessel ought to be embarrassed. In trying to throw the GM under the bus, Kessel threw his teammates under the bus. By saying that Phaneuf didn’t build this team he is saying his teammates suck. As Phaneuf is the high paid star on an under achieving team, he does deserve a share of the blame and a significant share at that. The media isn’t to blame for Phaneuf’s lackluster play, nor the play of the Leafs. That interview makes me like Kessel less. Suck it up, Phil, put on your big boy pants and stop whining about the media.

Kessel has some fair points.

You really can’t blame one guy for the play of an entire team, whether that one guy is Phaneuf or Nonis. It’s a TEAM sport. Everyone that is a part of thas team shares in the blame.

But largely, it’s Phaneuf who gets singled out.

Toronto is a toxic place to play hockey.

I agree.  Everyone knew what he was saying…he just shouldn’t have said it out loud.

JVR and Bozak at least take the puck away more than they give it away. Kessel is -21 player and 52/24 giveaway/takeaway ratio.

Kessel should be traded.

They really should of held onto good role players like Winnik and Santorelli but hey I guess Nonis covets arseholes.

Give Kessel what he wants and trade him to a place where nobody will recognize him on the street like that team in central Ohia.
