There was minimal, if any real consequence to Gudas for the hit on Farnham, aside from being ejected from the game. The Devils only scored one goal during the major penalty that Gudas cost his team. The Flyers won the game quite handily by a score of 6-3 and picked up two valuable points in the wild-card race. The big win for Gudas was escaping a possible suspension once again.
The Flyers coaching staff and management might have another talk with their volatile player. The Department of Safety might even speak with Gudas concerning his rather dangerous level of play as of late and issue a strong warning.
Even though Gudas is most likely on a very short leash, talk is cheap. It’s more about accountability.
I believe that a three-game suspension would have sent a more meaningful message to Gudas (and other players around the league) that this pattern of behaviour will not be tolerated.
Let’s hope that another round of talks work out better for Gudas’ opponents this time.
