Stanley Cup Hangover

From Rocky Bonanno at NHL.com
In a summer filled sure to be filled with partying and back-slapping, members of the Detroit Red Wings must be careful not to come down with a mythical illness known around hockey circles as “Stanley Cup Hangover.”
I’ve subscribed to this theory for quite some time, and keep it in mind whenever preparing for another fantasy draft. Quite simply, it is the belief that teams that advance to the Cup Final, whether win or lose, are more susceptible to disappointing performances the following season, and especially vulnerable are veterans on the wrong side of 30.
continued… as he puts his theory to the test looking at past finalists

from Darryl Dobbs at the Hockey News,
Just more than five weeks left in the regular season, some big decisions need to be made - let’s get to some letters…
Hey Dobber. My son and I are in a keeper league pool and we want to rebuild for the future. We have 20 players – 14 good ones – and keep only 10 at the beginning of each season…

The Difference Between Fantasy & The Real Game

This trade would never happen, probably only be brought upt by some rumor site…
from Slam,
What are your thoughts for me to trade Sundin for Datsyuk? Sundin surely has an edge right now, however…
I think you have the right idea. Sundin has had an incredible start to the season despite the fact the Leafs are flailing. Not sure if that hot pace can be sustained, so get rid of him for Datsyuk while you still can. Datsyuk has too much talent around him to go into a slump for too long, while Sundin’s teammates are good at times and questionable at many others. Jason Blake has been horrible.

A1 Rating- Not Good

from IGN,
To call Shawn Chambers the worst player in video game history does the man and his career a disservice. Chambers had an accomplished thirteen-year NHL career as an NHL defenseman, winning two Stanley Cups in the process. Despite suffering through more than twenty surgeries on ailing knees, Chambers made it to the playoffs seven times and had 235 points in 625 NHL games.
And yet, if you loaded up NHL ‘93 back when you were wearing your flannel shirt and blaming your Gin Blossoms CD on your ex-girlfriend, you would’ve seen Chambers sporting the worst rating ever given to any athlete in video game history: A 1 overall rating.

NHL 2K8 Review

From Darren Bernhardt at CanWest News,
NHL 2K8 will demand the best of your mathematical skills. Not because of the number of goals you’ll score, but because you’ll need to calculate how many hours of sleep you can subtract in order to add more game-play and multiply your fun.
Long after you’ve finished a game, you’ll be dividing the hours until you can get back to it.
Entertainment and arithmetic, isn’t that really what gaming is all about? For 2K Sports sake, let’s hope so, because the company seems unaware it has the ugliest hockey game.

from Scott Cullen at TSN,
When preparing for your fantasy hockey draft, it’s always beneficial to know the players that will provide better value than the round in which they are selected.
These players may provide better value for a number of reasons, be it good health, better linemates or just an increase in opportunities.
Tuomo Ruutu, LW, Chicago - Physical and talented player who has yet to reach his potential in the NHL, but Ruutu is likely to start the season with rookies Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane and the upgrade in skill for his linemates will help Ruutu start to realize his offensive upside.

NEW YORK (March 19, 2007) — NHL.com today launched the Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge presented by XM Radio. Developed by STATS LLC, this interactive challenge allows fans to act as NHL club owners and build a team that competes against other fantasy owners based on the statistics generated by actual NHL hockey players as they compete for The Stanley Cup.
Participants in the Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge begin the postseason owning the rights to every player participating in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The task is to create a team of 10 starting players each week with the added challenge of starting each player a maximum of three times throughout the course of the playoffs. Fans can compete by creating or joining a public or private league of friends with similar interests and fantasy skill levels.
The Challenge begins with the first playoff game scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, 2007, and ends after the last game, estimated to be Monday, June 11, 2007. The Challenge consists of nine weekly periods know as “Challenge Weeks.” A Challenge Week consists of all games played Monday through Sunday.
